I entered this Modern Farmhouse design into the weekly Spoonflower competition. Pictured to the right are the design elements which I cut from black origami paper and scanned into Photoshop. Above are the design elements arranged into a self contained composition, and below is the design in repeat, shown on a pillow.
I'm really enjoying the pattern making process. Working with the Adobe applications Photoshop and Illustrator, it's an easy process to make illustrations into a repeat pattern. Yup, easy to make a REPEAT, but, I'm learning, NOT easy to make GOOD repeat!
The design might seem ok when repeated just 4 or 5 times across a computer screen, but when reduced to a repeat of say, 20, the truth comes out... the eye can see patterns that weren't intentional - like negative space forming a line across the entire design. Just as bad, the repeat can lack flow. These problems, and SO MANY more...
Anyway, I'm happy with how this one turned out, and hope to improve over time with weekly practice.
